Oh My Blog (March 2017) – Featuring Two Hearts One Roof

Oh My Blog is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have heard of before, and learn a little more about them!

Each month has a theme and this month, the theme is Mums (because it’s Mother’s Day soon!) and I’m hosting the lovely Chantele from Two Hearts One Roof.
1. Introduce us to your mum. What’s her name? What does she do? Reveal her age if you dare!
My Mums name is Julie, she is in her late 50’s, she has done many things in the past
hairdresser, beauty therapist, children’s ward receptionist and now a cleaner in a special needs school.
2. What’s the one thing your mum always used to say to you?
Count your blessings and tidy your room!
3. Someone’s playing your mum in a film. Who is it and why?
Lol! Angelica Housten, I’ve always thought she looks a bit like my mum (although mum will
probably kill me for saying that!) It’s the hair!
4.She’s won the lottery. What’s the first thing your mum buys for herself?
A BMW Z4! She has one on lease and loves it, so she would be straight to the garage to get herself a new one. She loves driving!
5. What embarrassing story about you does she always tell when you meet new people?
She doesn’t really tell any embarrassing stories to be honest.
6. What are your plans for Mother’s Day this year?
Actually I will be away in California for Mother’s Day this year, it’s my first as a mum as my little dude was born in June. I think Mum will be having a meal out with my sister but not sure what I’ll be doing, Will have to see if hubby plans anything for me
7. What’s her favourite TV show at the moment?
Spring Watch or Great Train Journeys!
8. What’s the biggest or most important thing that your mum inspired you to do?
She supported me and Jon when we started our business (www.crossjonesphotogrpahy.com) .
She didn’t inspire us to take the leap to launch the company but she was definitely a huge factor in us being brave enough and financially able to do it.
9. Your round at the bar! What’s your mum drinking?
Dark Rum and Coke
10. What’s the biggest different between you and your mum?
She’s an obsessive cleaner and I’m not! Lol Jon does most the cleaning in our house.
11. Most important question of the lot. What is your mum’s stance on 50 Shades of Grey?
Does she love it? Hate it? Not even know what it is?
I believe she read the first 2 chapters and thought it was crap so didn’t bother with any more of it.
12. What’s your favourite memory of your mum?
Probably the day she met her grandson, he’s the first grandchild and I’ve never seen her so proud or besotted.
13. What do you think your mum was like as a kid?
She was probably a good girl I think, but probably a bit bossy.
14. Cast your mind back a bit; what was the thing you did as a child or teenager that made your mum the angriest she has ever been with you?
Oh tough question either moving my boyfriend in at 17 (I’m married to him now! So we were pretty serious!) or me not getting the grades I needed to get into Cardiff University the first time round (which she blamed on having said boyfriend).
15. Finally, what’s the BEST piece of advice your mum ever gave to you?
Don’t waste time on people who aren’t worth it.

Oh my Blog! February 2017 feat. Tilly from Lavender Lemonade

This is Oh My Blog!

A brand new monthly interview series featuring a whole host of fellow bloggers!

Each month, we’ll be bringing you different themed posts showcasing the very best bloggers out there – I guarantee you’ll find some smashing new blogs to read.

This month, the questions are based on the fitting February topic of love! The first blogger we will be meeting is Tilly from Lavender Lemonade. She is going to answer a few questions to tell us a bit about herself so, without further ado, here we go!

1. Tell us about yourself and your blog.

My name is Tilly, and I blog at LavenderLemonade.net – I’ve had a blog for almost a decade now, but due to taking an extended hiatus a few years ago I moved to Lavender Lemonade and haven’t looked back since. Offline, I’m a Fiancée, Stepmum, Daughter, Granddaughter and Teaching Assistant who moved from the gritty city of Bradford to a small commuter town named Newton-le-Willows in 2016. It’s still somewhat of an adjustment for me as I’m used to city-center living but I’m getting there slowly!

2. What is your current relationship status?

Engaged to be married. We’ve had a long engagement but with one thing or another we haven’t been able to move forward with the planning – thankfully, 2017 is the year we rectify this! We’ve been driving each other crazy for 6 years in March, and we still give each other butterflies.

3. Do you ever celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Not in the material sense – Valentines Day was always a day we made about spending time with each other, not buying fluffy hearts or cards. Admittedly I have upped my game this year and splashed out on something – he doesn’t know yet.

4. It’s your first date! Where do you go?

Walking somewhere – hiking, rambling.. Anything we can do to stretch our legs and take pretty pictures. Our actual first date was fish and chip takeaway watching a movie on the sofa though. Perfect for me, and I still have butterflies when I think back!

5. What’s the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you?

Sang a song for me – my fiancé is incredibly talented on karaoke and he decided to spontaneously serenade me with U2 – With Or Without You and I still remember it! Being quite the wallflower I wasn’t as happy back then as I am now, I can still remember my cheeks blazing!

6. What is your favourite romantic film?

Cheesier the better. I’m really not into romantic films! I prefer Sci-fi and horror, and as I edged towards the ripe old age of thirty my fiancé had to rectify the problem that I had never seen Ghost. I will never admit it to him as he made me watch it but that was pretty lovely and mushy..

7. Spill the beans! Who’s your celebrity crush?

Ryan Reynolds and Chris Pratt. I just get an eye-roll from the other side of the sofa if we watch a movie with them in!

8. Flowers are pretty popular at this time of year. Do you like receiving them or do they really not float your boat?

I love flowers. I don’t want to, but I really do find comfort in having a bunch of flowers somewhere in my home – it’s a small endearment and it makes me really happy to think that someone thinks enough of me to buy me something so pretty.

9. Do you have children? Do you want any (or any more)?

I have two wonderful stepchildren, and plans to have our own when we are married too. I actually never wanted children until I met my stepchildren – they’ve converted me and I (sometimes!) actually like spending time with little ones now – compared to my early twenties when I’d go out of my way to avoid them! I never had any maternal feelings nor instinct until quite late into my twenties, it used to worry me a lot. There’s a lot of pressure on women of that age to be nesting, and it just wasn’t me.

10. What would be (or was) your choice of song for your first dance at your wedding?

Simply the Best by Tina Turner is a bit of a family tradition. I can see something more ‘us’ being a song by Brandon Flowers however as we are both massive fans.

11. Do you have any plans yet for Valentine’s Day 2017?

Not yet – I’d like a lovely meal between the two of us and a bottle of wine. We’ve been together so long and experienced so much, just being in his company is enough to make me feel happy and loved!

12. Raw oysters are pretty famous for being an aphrodisiac. Have you ever tried them?

No, but I wouldn’t say no to trying them! They’re somewhat of a delicacy!

13. Imagining money’s no object, where would you go for a romantic getaway?

Somewhere like Iceland, or Norway. We’ve always had a love for those countries and they’re definitely on the bucket list – amusingly we don’t really do warm climates!

14. What’s the best Valentine’s gift you’ve ever received?

We don’t really ‘do’ gifts!

15. Finally, what is the number one most important thing you value in a relationship?

Trust, and friendship. I’ve come to realise if you don’t trust someone, you can’t be friends. If you can’t be friends, then you certainly can’t cultivate a healthy and loving relationship – thankfully, we have both. Even if there are days we don’t agree, I always have a friend in him – and him with me.
