Cocktails are awesome.

They have that bit of theatre about them that makes you anticipate it’s arrival once you’ve ordered/made it and they make you happy (aka; drunk). Like Tequila. There’s a song in that…

Over on this page you’ll find recipes for various different Cocktails I’ve tried. Again, it’s all in the name of research and it’s a tough job but, somebody has to do it.

 Recipe for a Bramble


This blackberry-based Gin cocktail is really simple to make (which means it’s ideal if you’re parched and in desperate of a beverage!) and is nicely balanced as it’s both sweet and sour.

This cocktail is on its way to obtaining ‘modern classic status’, if it hasn’t already reached it, frequenting Cocktail bars almost everywhere.

It’s pretty to look at, gets your taste buds zinging and is a real Summers Day Drink.

How to make a Bramble:

60ml Gin of your choice

30ml Fresh Lemon Juice

15ml Sugar Syrup

15ml Crème de Mure or Chambord

Add the gin, lemon and sugar syrup to a shaker.

Shake well.
Strain into an ice-filled Glass or Jam Jar.
Pour the Crème de Mure/Chambord over the top, creating the ‘bramble’ type effect.
Garnish with fresh blackberries if you have some, or for a fruity, summer twist add a splash of Crème de Framboise.

 Espresso Martini


My all time favourite ‘grown up Cocktail’. The mixture of strong coffee, Kahlua and Vodka is a match made in heaven and I can’t get enough of these things.

Would make for a very impressive end of meal cocktail…or maybe as an early afternoon ‘pick me up’ 😉

Make sure you really do give it a jolly good shake in order to get that creme on the top!

How to make an Espresso Martini:

Makes one glass

25ml (1fl oz) Kahlúa or Caffé Lolita liqueur
25ml (1fl oz) espresso
50ml (2fl oz) vodka

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice.

Shake very vigorously to combine.

Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with three coffee beans on top.

Drunken Ramble about it’s origins:

This was created by a barman, Dick Bradshaw, in the 1980s. Rumour has it he was asked by one of his customers to “make a drink to wake me up”, and the result was this creamy, rich cocktail.



An oldie, but a goodie. No Cocktail bar, or book, is complete without this bad boy in it’s repertoire.

Refreshing, zingy, a taste of Summer and a reminder of Sunny holidays (pre kids in my case, sob!)…this drink is one of the best.

How to make a Mojito:

1½ limes, cut into wedges

20 fresh mint leaves

2½ tsp granulated sugar

A Handful ice, crushed

65ml/2½fl oz white rum

A splash of soda water, to taste

Fresh Mint Sprig to garnish

Place the limes, mint and sugar into a sturdy highball glass and ‘muddle’ or mash with the end of a clean rolling pin (or a muddler if you’ve got the proper tools for the job!) to bruise the mint and release the lime juice.

Add the crushed ice and pour over the rum.

Add soda water to taste and stir well.

Garnish with a mint sprig and serve.

 Club Tropicana

(Pineapple Juice with Malibu, Lime Juice and Mint)


This is a fruity little number that I love.

It doesn’t taste too alcoholic and it’s actually not too bad as a virgin cocktail with Coconut Water instead of Malibu (I said no alcohol, I know. Bear with me whilst I go and wash my mouth out…)

Strawberry Mojito


A spin on the classic Mojito, which is fab for using up the last few sad looking strawberries in your punnet.

Not to everyones taste, sometimes you just shouldn’t tamper with a classic, but I love this – satisfied my sweet tooth again!

Completely Knutts


A very, very naughty little number this one. I made it up one night when I had the urge for some Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups but didn’t have any. But what I did have, was Reese’s Chocolate spread…

I followd a similar recipe to my Oreo Cookie Milkshake one above and ended up with this little beauty.

Chocolatey, Peanutty, like a warped grown up milkshake. Yummers!

A retro eycatcher of a cocktail.

Bitter orange, zingy citrus, fizzy lemonade and the novelty factor of the colour make for a fun and tasty cocktail.

This Alcoholic Cocktail is sure to be a hit with grown ups and, if you take the vodka out, the kids as well!

Alcoholic Malteser Milkshake


I love Maltesers. I think they’re one of my favourite treats to eat (a bag of…) 😉

 Gin & Dubonnet


This is one I made in homage to her Majesty the Queen on her 90th Birthday in June 2016.

It is said the Queen drinks one of these every day at lunchtime, so, if it is good enough for the Queen, it’s good enough for us peasants 😉

Dubonnet is available from Waitrose, Ocado and Online retailers. It’s a difficult drink to describe but it is a mixture between a port, a dessert wine and sheery, with Sangria type notes in it. I really love it and it’s fabulous on it’s own over ice!

Alcoholic Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate


Chocolate and Orange. A classic combo, put together in a hot chocolate, which is guaranteed to warm your cockles on the coldest of days.

I love to use real chocolate in a hot chocolate but this recipe would work if you only had drinking chocolate/cocoa to hand.

Creamy Chocolate Martini


Another creamy/chocolately one. Sorry, I can’t help myself!

This is a spin on the classic martini but, again, made with real chocolate which is melted into some cream to make a ganache.

It’s a cocktail that takes a little bit of preparation, but the result is totally worth it!

 Alcoholic Iced Caramel Latte


I cannot get enough of Caramel. I love the stuff.

It can be used to make a pudding in super quick time and I always keep a tin of Carnation Caramel in the cupboard in case of emergency. You never know when you might need a tin of caramel!!

This cocktail did really well online and had a brilliant response. I think my love of caramel is shared with many of you.

 ‘The White One’ gets a makeover!

(Ellas’s kitchen puree pouch cocktail!)


I don’t know why my brain works like it does, it is a constant cause for concern for my husband I’m sure,  but as soon as I saw these Ella’s Kitchen Puree Pouches, I thought…cocktail! You can spend a fortune on pureed fruits to use as quick and easy mixers in a cocktail, but these little pouches of deliciousness are exactly the same as the (often overpriced) cocktail specific ones and do just as good a job!

‘The White One’ contains coconut, pineapple, banana, apple and lemon juice, making it the perfect base for a tropical cocktail!

A patriotic little tipple, based on the colours in the Union Jack (but incidently, also for France, USA, Australia, Cambodia, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Dominican Rebublic, Haiti, The Faroe Islands, Iceland, Laos, North Korea – ahem – Liberia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Nepal, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Russia, Samoa, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Thailand and Sint Maarten – maybe I should have called it something else! Hahahaha!!!).

Anyway, it’s perfect for all those Olympic parties that are bound to be coming up if your country is one of those listed above. And even if you’re not of a country with a red, white and blue flag, this tastes so good you’d be mad not to give it a go!

 Soho Juice Co. Pineapple Mojito (or Aku Aku)


I was sent a bottle of this Soho Juice Co. mixer to try for a review.

It’s a lime, lemon, cucumber and mint based mixer, with the emphasis on trying to revive the humble cucumber as an addition to drinks.

I loved it. It was refreshing, clean, tasty and, when mixed with some Tequila, made for a pretty awesome Margarita!

 Star Wars inspired ‘Space’ Slushy

 Cherry Bakewell Prosecco

Prosecco with Cherries and Amaretto

I love a Cherry Bakewell.

The combo of cherry, almond and (of course) the icing is just my dream so when I thought about concocting a cocktail with these flavours, this is what I ended up with!

It’s a brilliant way of perking up a cheap bottle of Cava or Prosecco.

 Cadbury’s Crunchie Milkshake


These wacky chcolate bar inspired spreads had a real surge over the summer holidays of 2016. Nestle and Cadbury’s were in on the action and when I saw this spread in the supermarket, I couldn’t resist buying a pot to see what I could do with it.

This is what came of that experimenting.

It’s really delicious and the honeycomb really comes through in the milkshake. It’s scrummy!

 Gin Cocktails, featuring Pickering’s Gin!

I was sent a couple of miniature bottles of Pickering’s Gin to try in 2016.

My first free Gin! (Thanks Pickering’s!)

I’m a sucker for an iced coffee.

I bought some delicious Chocolate and Vanilla, Hazelnut Spread the other week and it was so good I just had to do a recipe for something with it.

This is what I created. Creamy, chocolatey, caffine filled – with a hint of Nuttella about it.

 Coconut Water Mojito Mocktail (non Alcoholic)

This refreshing take on a mojito was conjured up because I was partaking in Dry September 2016 for Children with Cancer UK.

Even though it is sans-alcohol, it’s still a really lovely tipple and makes you feel like you’re drinking a full on cocktail…minus the giddy juice.

Again, a mocktail for Dry September but this time a very quick and simple drink.

It’s basically just Lemonade and Grenadine Syrup but, trust me when I say, it makes for a really delicious drink which can be whipped up in a jiffy.
